The 2023 model year is filled with SUVs to choose from, and the Honda CR-V and the Nissan Rogue are among the top options. These compact SUVs have maneuverability akin to a sedan and spacious interior dimensions that remind you you’re driving an SUV. In addition to plenty of passenger and cargo space, both models are filled with desirable safety and tech features. As rivals, the CR-V and the Rogue have been neck and neck for years, but the 2023 redesign of the CR-V might have given it a longer lead. The number one reason for upgrading to an SUV is for the additional space in the cabin. The CR-V and the Rogue have that in spades. Both vehicles seat five passengers in two rows but the dimensions of the CR-V are a little more spacious than the Rogue. The CR-V has 41 inches of legroom in the rear seat, which is 1.5 inches more than the Rogue. While that may not seem like a lot, taller passengers are likely to feel the difference on long car rides. And when it comes to long trips, both vehicles have comfortable, supportive, and cushy seats that are great for riding all day, but the CR-V also has reclining rear seats for added comfort.
Other interior features in the CR-V include available leather-trimmed seats, a standard 10-way power adjustable driver seat, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, and plenty of interior storage options including a lockable glove compartment and a multi-functional center console.
The CR-V offers more than the Rogue when it comes to cargo space. The CR-V has 39.3 cubic feet of space behind the rear seat. When the second row is folded, the CR-V has a total of 76.5 cubic feet of space.
The Rogue, however, has only 31.6 cubic feet of space behind the second row. With the rear seat folded, the rogue has 74.1 cubic feet of space.
For 2023, the Honda CR-V has a long list of tech features. The standard infotainment system is a 7.0-inch touchscreen, and a 9.0-inch screen is available. Features include Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, Amazon Alexa, a six-speaker audio system, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Available features include built-in navigation, wireless device charging, and a 12-speaker Bose audio system.
The Nissan Rogue’s standard features include an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto, and two USB ports. The standard sound system in the Rogue has a little less oomph than the CR-V with only four speakers instead of six and if you want a Wi-Fi hotspot or Amazon Alexa integration you’ll have to spring for a higher trim level as they are not standard features. The available stereo upgrade for the Rogue still falls short of the CR-V with a 10-speaker Bose system.
The 2023 Honda CR-V has two engine options. The standard model is motivated by a 190-horsepower 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine. Available is a 204-horsepower hybrid engine that combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with two electric motors. Both engines are paired with a smooth continuously variable transmission.
For 2023, the Rogue only has one engine option – a 201-horsepower 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine paired with a CVT. The Rogue does not offer a hybrid powertrain.
